The collaboration between Telegraph Gallery and the artists transcends the boundaries of gallery, building, exhibitions and residencies. One of our initiatives is the creation of Telegraph, a special edition of original serigraphs created by artists associated with Telegraph. The printing technique of screen printing (or also serigraphy) consists of a process in which ink is pushed through a fine mesh onto a printing surface, in this case paper. The process begins with the creation of a stencil on the mesh, which is coated with a light-sensitive emulsion, and when illuminated, the exposed parts are released, allowing the ink to be pushed through. The technique first appeared in China more than a thousand years ago, but gained its greatest popularity during the Pop Art period. Artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol were also popular because it allowed them to work with the multiplication of the image.
Regular gallery visitors can view these artworks directly at our reception. However, you can also purchase them on the eshop.
For those who are unfamiliar with Telegraphs, this journal is a great opportunity to learn more about them.
The most recent addition to the Telegraph series is a work by intermedia artist Connection, part of the exhibition Connections. The black and white pattern depicts the traces of electronic machinery moving arbitrarily on an inclined plane.
The series of telegraphs by Laura Limbourg (*1996) certainly doesn't lack a distinctive signature. The tiger motif in the serigraphs symbolizes her experiences during her visit to Southeast Asia. The colorfulness, along with the primitivized execution, embody the spirit and strong visual tradition of Asian countries.
Laura Limbourg's prints can be purchased either one at a time or in a limited series of five prints in a special edition.
The Artist's Award by David Pesat (*1980) reflects the work of an artist who teeters between figuration and abstraction. Through expressive painting, he depicts the process of creation and extinction and invites reflection on the constant changes that influence our view of the world.
A leading representative of contemporary light art Pavel Korbička (*1972) also takes an abstract approach to visual expression. His serigraphy is inspired by the Space of Perception exhibition from late 2021 and early 2022, whose visitors walked through a labyrinthine corridor of light installed in the Telegraph Gallery space. The trough transformed the optical experience of the installation into graphics, creating a dynamic pattern of light, broken up into regular points, that creates a visual tremor.
Filip Kůrka (*1993) in his graphic Solitaire captured a moment from the performance of the same name and subsequent exhibition, which was on view at the Telegraph during his residency in October 2022. Solitaire is the embodiment of Kůrka's Hunting Realism.
The dangers hidden by the temptingly sweet taste of sugar inspired the graphics of Dominik Adamec (*1995). Ambrosia is the mythological drink of the gods. It is an enticing and sweet nectar that grants mortals eternal youth, beauty and immortality. Sugar as a human mammoth of pleasure, after ingestion of which there is satisfaction and a feeling that death does not exist.
Graphics by Jakub Špaňhel (*1976), one of the most important contemporary Czech painters, created exclusively for the Telegraph Gallery, depicts the life cycle of butterflies and evokes the movement and changeability of nature.
Provoking and multidimensional serigraphy Monika Žáková (*1987), entitled XY, will first awaken in you a strong aesthetic experience, later raising questions about the relationship between two unknowns, between different perspectives and identities.
Humor lovers will also find their own. Mark Thera's (*1979) graphic featuring Garfield the cat was created for the May exhibition at the Telegraph Gallery in 2022, when the Olomouc exhibition space was transformed into an East German villa from the 1980s. 1950s.
