New serigraph by Monika Žáková

11 1 2023

New on the e-shop Telegraph Gallery is an original graphic created by artist Monika Žáková.

A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, the artist emphasizes precision in her work, which is characterized by concentration and a strong focus on technical processing. In July and August 2021, she participated in a residency at the Telegraph, which also included a visit to her studio. In addition, Monika Žáková is also the author of a contemporary mural on the façade of the Telegraph, which she created in the summer of 2022, based on the folding and subsequent re-folding of paper.

The title of the work XY opens up space for different perspectives and interpretations. This title leads us to distinguish between genders, refers to perpendicular axes on the Cartesian coordinate system, represents unknown values and serves as a label for coordinates in a 2D representation. This ambiguity brings us to a deeper reflection and critical examination of the work. What connotations and meanings can we find in the context of XY? What is the relationship between these different perspectives? Does this title create tension or harmony? The result is a provocative and multidimensional work that invites viewers to consider the meaning and relationships between the concepts that XY evokes. By viewing the work with this in mind, we expand our understanding and open ourselves to new possibilities of understanding.

The 72 × 51 cm print was created as part of a special edition of Telegrafika. It is processed using the serigraphy technique. If you would like to have this work of art at home, you can buy it like other telegraphs from this series for 2 850 CZK at the reception of Telegraph Gallery or at our e-shop.
