Folklore is more than a traditionalist wink at costumes. Folklore is the Met Gala, folklore is burning moraine, folklore is consuming aspic. The unbridledly playful, yet intellectually tight experimental video essay paraphrases the influencer babbling in the language of TikTok and the band Čokovoko. Superficiality and endless fantasy are pinned on the moodboard.
The film that won the silver trophy at the prestigious Student Academy Awards! Volklore draws on the playful, provocative poetics of Chytilová and her Daisies and moves the festival theme of femme fatale right into the heart of the online era. The main character, Vivi, represents a modern-day femme fatale of algorithms – aesthetically perfect, mysterious and constantly balancing between naturalness and calculated self-promotion. The subsequent discussion with Oscar-winning director Viktoria Štěpánová will bring deeper insight into the boundaries where authentic tradition ends and modern pop culture begins.

The sixth year of the Telegraph Film Festival belongs to women in front of and behind the camera. Film heroines and their authors. Directors, artists and illustrators of different generations. Some have already made a significant impact on the history of Czech film, others are coming with contemporary work and new themes. Each different. Each in their own way.
