Swedish artist Anna Uddenberg's film follows on from her ongoing exhibition White Noise. Uddenberg's work has long explored how cold corporate design, ergonomic furniture and the infrastructure of contemporary offices shape and control the human body. Her fragmentary, sterile and disturbingly attractive figures lose their autonomy and merge with the space that surrounds them. As part of the festival's theme Femmes Fatales, these images bring a completely new, uncompromising view of the female body - not as an object of desire, but as part of a powerful infrastructure subject to neoliberal pressure.
The sculptures conceptually relate to the ethics of contemporary architecture and the real estate market, in which the socio-economic reality of the city often gives way to commercial interests. Individuals thus find themselves in a position of subordination to the systems that shape their environment and way of life. Uddenberg's work also focuses on the intersection of BDSM culture and the mechanisms of capitalist commodification. The film Useless Sacrifice therefore opens up questions of power relations, personal autonomy and gender performativity in an environment where the human body, identity and living space become objects of exchange and consumption.
Useless Sacrifice by Anna Uddenberg and co-director Thyag Sainte presents the artist’s works in the context of her solo exhibitions at Meredith Rosen Gallery and Kunsthalle Mannheim. Through sculpture and performance as visual media, the film explores performativity and the ways in which the body, identity, and power are shaped in contemporary society.

FEMMES FATALES. Fatal women. The kind that are not forgotten.
The sixth year of the Telegraph Film Festival belongs to women in front of and behind the camera. Film heroines and their authors. Directors, artists and illustrators of different generations. Some have already made a significant impact on the history of Czech film, others are coming with contemporary work and new themes. Each different. Each in their own way.
