Monika Žáková part of the Dough Portraits project

Monika Žáková is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. She studied in the studios of Jiří Sopek and Igor Korpaczewski. In 2011, while still studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, she completed a study stay at the Dresden Academy in the studio of Ralf Kerbach, which significantly influenced her work and also launched her career. Since the beginning of her work she has emphasized precision. Her work is characterised by concentration and a strong focus on the technical detail of her paintings. She is fascinated with layering and meaning when dealing with the relationship between materials, especially in the form of canvas and paper. However, she also works with metal, textiles and plaster. She expresses herself mainly through painting and drawing. Her colour palette has a narrow monochromatic spectrum.

She spent two months in residence at the Telegraph in 2021. The residence was also the occasion of a interview. In addition to the residency, Monika Žáková participated in the Telegrafika project and created a multidimensional serigraphy called XY . It first awakens a strong aesthetic experience in you, and later raises questions about the relationship between two unknowns, between different perspectives and identities. The serigraphy can be purchased on our eshop.

For the Telegraph, she also created a mural based on the folds of paper that create abstract, geometric patterns. The areas of squares divide into triangles, which may refer to infinity in mathematics, as well as a children's game called Heaven, Hell, Paradise.

Currently, her work, titled Zero Gravity 09, is part of a photography exhibit at Game Owner at Telegraph Gallery. The photograph depicting Kunsthalle Praha co-owner Petr Pudil is part of Danish conceptual artist Søren Dahlgaard's Dough Portraits project, in which he captures dough-headed collectors with their favourite pieces from their collection.
