What's coming up at the Telegraph Gallery in June?
If you visit the Telegraph Gallery regularly, you will know that our programme goes beyond the gallery space. In addition to long-running exhibitions, there are pop-up exhibitions in the cinema and loft throughout the year, as well as residencies by Czech and international artists, always ending with an Open Studio in their studio. You can also look forward to lecture series focusing on the work of contemporary artists, the work of curators, and the collecting of contemporary art with collectors, gallerists and curators.
June is the last of the months when the Telegraph Gallery is fully dedicated to the exhibition GAME OWNER, which remains on view until July 3. But alongside it, there are already the first hints of what's to come - the presence of artist-in-residence Lucia Tallová and her June lecture herald a new exhibition that will transform the Telegraph this summer.
1 6 2025 / 13:00 Children's Day at the Telegraph Gallery
We are traditionally preparing a Children's Day programme at the Telegraph Gallery that will delight both young and older visitors. This year's programme, aimed at developing imagination and artistic skills, is inspired by the current exhibition GAME OWNER. In creative workshops, children will create their own island as an imaginative space where their own rules apply. Using a variety of techniques and materials, they will design a unique world inspired by the playfulness of Danish artist Søren Dahlgaard's inflatable islands. However, they will not only take home their island, but also a colouring book with themes from the current exhibition.
5 6 2025 / 18:00 Open Studio + Artist presentation: Lucia Tallová
June will begin with an event as part of the Slovak Season in Olomouc, which combines our traditional Open Studio format, focusing primarily on work created during residencies at the Telegraph, and the Artist Presentation format, which aims to present the work of invited artists. The artist in residence since May is Slovak visual artist Lucia Tallová, whose work combines traditional painting with installations, objects, collage and photography. The central theme of her work is memory and the archive, which she develops through collages and spatial installations. She works with remnants of materials, old photographs, furniture or porcelain to create fictional archives. The event also serves as a precursor to an upcoming exhibition entitled I Wish I Were Made of Stone, which opens on 17 July 2025.
25 6 2025 / 18:00 Collecting Contemporary Art Zuzana Weissová / Pavol Weiss
From the series of lectures Collecting Contemporary Art focusing on the journey of young and experienced collectors, curators or professionals in the contemporary art market, this time we will present long-time collectors of contemporary art and founders of White & Weiss Gallery in Bratislava, Zuzana Weissová and Pavol Weiss. Since the second half of the 1990s, their journey together has evolved from collecting contemporary art to founding an auction company and then transforming it into a gallery space in 2016. White & Weiss Gallery focuses on contemporary visual art, presenting established artists from Slovakia and the Czech Republic, but also regularly giving space to young talents. In addition to exhibitions, it is dedicated to building its own collection and actively participates in shaping cultural discourse.
16 6 2025 / 19:00 Prague premiere of GOOD BOY from Slovakia + discussion with the filmmakers
Can't make it to Olomouc? Never mind! For our Prague audience, we are preparing a screening of the short film GOOD BOY from Slovakia, which looks back at last year's successful exhibition GOOD BOY, the work of Andrej Dúbravský and the wider social and political context of contemporary Slovakia. The cinema tour continues and the next stop is the Edison cinema in Prague, where the film will be screened on 16 June. The screening will be traditionally accompanied by a discussion with the filmmakers - Michael Bukovanský (director, editor, screenplay) and Erika Kovačičová (screenplay, curator of the GOOD BOY exhibition).
