Jake Chapman in Olomouc: Provocation at every turn - Telegraph Gallery welcomes an exclusive exhibition with accompanying programme

Olomouc will soon become a centre of provocation. Telegraph Gallery will welcome one of the most controversial British artists of our time, Jake Chapman. Jake Chapman is known for his uncompromising criticism of society and his often shocking works. He brings to Olomouc not only his new exhibition Flotsam & Jetsam, tailor-made for the Telegraph Gallery, which will open on 5 September at 6pm, but also a unique accompanying programme that promises to get the blood pumping in every visitor's veins.

Jake Chapman, one half of the famed duo the Chapman Brothers, has long been an artist unafraid to stir up controversy. He and his brother Dinos, with whom he worked until 2020, are known for their unsettling sculptures, drawings and installations that often explore the darker sides of human existence, war, religion and consumer society. In the Czech Republic, thanks to curator Otto Urban, they were presented at the Rudolfinum Gallery in 2013 in the successful exhibition The Blind Leading the Blind and are currently part of the KAFKAesque exhibition at the Dox in Prague. In Olomouc, however, Jake Chapman is performing independently, yet his exhibition promises to be an unforgettable experience full of provocation and deep questions.

Pop-up installation Chapman Brothers. This short-term installation on the weekend of 7 and 8 September brings together a selection of their work that at first glance may provoke anxiety, fear or revulsion, but on closer inspection reveals deeper layers of critique and irony. The pop-up exhibition is aimed at those who are not afraid to face uncomfortable questions and want to get beneath the surface of seemingly shocking scenes.

Author's Film: 'Accelerate or Die'

As part of the accompanying programme, the film 'Accelerate or Die' will be screened at the Telegraph Cinema on 4 September at 6pm, answering the question why is it easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism? The answer may lie in "accelerationism". Capitalism, it is argued, is breaking up society, humanity and our planet. Accelerationists hold that the only way forward is not to fight against the relentless technological progress and the cultural and political fragmentation that accompanies it, but to embrace it and ride the wave even faster, no matter where it takes us. This dynamic film focuses on the place where technology, capitalism and the climate crisis come together. The film will be subtitled in Czech and there will be a short discussion with the filmmaker in English after the film.

Don't miss: An experience that will take you out of your comfort zone

The Jake Chapman exhibition and accompanying programme at the Telegraph Gallery is not for everyone. They are for those who are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone and face art that has the power to challenge everything we take for granted. If you're looking for an experience that will make you think, debate and maybe even provoke a little, you shouldn't miss this event.
