CURRENT ARTIST ON RESIDENCE: Belén Uriel

Belén Uriel (*1974) brings a completely new perspective to the world of art, focusing on common objects and their influence on our social habits. Originally from Madrid, the artist currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2015, she received an art grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, and in 2018, she was awarded the prestigious 6th Audemars Piguet Prize at ARCO Madrid. In her work, she primarily uses glass and metal to create distorted replicas of everyday objects that bear traces of human use. Belén rearranges these elements to evoke the form of anatomical parts. The partially reconstructed objects seem to return to the bodies that indirectly inspired them. Her artwork is a profound reflection on the relationship between humans and their environment, as well as the ability to perceive new artistic potential in everyday objects.
