Olomouc Museum Night is back and we are opening the gates of Andrej Dúbravský's exhibition. From 5 pm to 10 pm, the exhibition is available to view for free.
The exhibition GOOD BOY by Andrej Dúbravský reflects on the theme of beauty in art, both from a historical perspective and through the lens of today's times. A time when the rhetoric of fitness lifestyle, stereotypes of perfect appearance and fatshaming on social media mix with the body positivity movement and plus size campaigns of global fashion brands. As a society, we find ourselves in a time when we are obsessed with our own bodies and the compulsion to display them publicly, but at the same time experience a traumatic sense of powerlessness from the illicit entry into intimate space.
The paradox of the present is compounded by the historical context of contradictory tabooing and bold display of the 'forbidden'. A reminder of the well-known scene of The Happy Chance of the Swing is imaginatively placed at the centre of Dúbravsky's exhibition. It is only the attentive eye of the viewer that perceives the strong emotions of the main character in the intricate romantic scenery of this rococo work by Fragonard. Enjoying a moment of visual pleasure has no shame in it, on the contrary it is an invitation to play. The exhibition will also be complemented by ecologically themed works of nature motifs, which the artist allows himself to be surrounded by at his country estate in Rastislavice, Slovakia.
Andrej Dúbravský is one of the most prominent representatives of the contemporary Slovak art scene. His work focuses on depictions of male bodies and erotic scenes, stylized self-portraits and rural landscapes. He graduated from the Painting Studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He has had a number of exhibitions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as successful projects abroad, for example at the important Berlin gallery DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM.
