Nudity, hunting and open sex scenes in art. These are the themes that painter Filip Kůrka works with. What place does sex have in art? Is hunting as such a manifestation of toxic masculinity or a peculiar coping with the crisis of masculinity? And how does censorship (not only) on social media interfere in all this? That's what Zuzana and Terezie from the popular podcast Vyhonit ďábla (Chasing the Devil) will ask Filip. Live and live on the Telegraph.
One of the most outstanding young talents in domestic painting, Filip Kůrka (*1993), a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in the studios of Martin Mainer and Jiří Petrboek, has already drawn attention to himself with his diploma thesis, in which he worked with overtly pornographic themes, which he set in stories understood by children. Recently, however, he has undergone what he calls a personal transformation, during which God gave him the idea of so-called hunter realism. Kůrka thus became its founder and is currently working intensively on its realisation. His most recent exhibition, The Serpent's Trap, took place in 2020 at The Chemistry Gallery, where he was presented together with the sculptor Matouš Háša.
And Chasing the Devil is something of a revelation on the domestic podcast scene. Its authors, Terezie Ferjančeková and Zuzana Kašparová, regularly delve into topics related to sex and intimacy.
"We are two friends and students who decided to start recording a podcast about sex, intimacy and carnality in 2019 in a basement apartment in Brno. We tackle various taboo topics in an informal, (hopefully) fun, but mostly open and tasteful way. We want to give people courage. We don't like double standards, beauty ideals, early risers, heteronormativity, frustrations with our bodies, warm beer or sexism. We embrace labia diversity, freedom, consensual sex, love, empathetic behavior, panty discharge, tolerance, female orgasm, SexEd, feminist porn, and calling things, especially our genitals, by their real names,"as described by the authors themselves.
Vyhonit ďábla (Chasing the Devil) podcast was produced by the student-run Radio R. It is now published by GoOut. In 2020, it won the Podcast of the Year award in the Author Podcast category. "Our show came about spontaneously. We wanted some sort of collaborative activity. We knew that we both talk about sex often and openly. We had experience in college radio, so we decided to combine the two. From the very beginning, we conceived of the podcast as a chat between two friends. Although we try to create some educational added value in each episode, we don't want to substitute sex education in schools or elsewhere and pretend to be self-proclaimed sexperts," conclude Zuzana and Terezia.
