May: what does the gallery do?

24 4 2026 | Author: Monika Podlasová

What's coming up in May at the Telegraph Gallery?

If you visit the Telegraph Gallery regularly, you will know that our programme goes beyond the gallery space. In addition to the long-term exhibitions, there are pop-up exhibitions in the cinema and loft throughout the year, as well as residencies by Czech and international artists, always ending with an Open Studio in their studio. In addition, you can look forward to lecture series focused on the work of contemporary artists, the work of curators, and on contemporary art collecting with collectors, gallerists and curators.

May will be busy. In addition to the Transylvanian Painting Today exhibition, we have artist meet-and-greets, a film premiere, a museum night, and a talk on what it takes to build a private gallery from the ground up. In short, plenty of reasons to come back for more.

5 3 - 11 6 2026 Transylvanian Painting Today

You can still visit us for our ongoing exhibition Transylvanian Painting Today, until 11 June 2026. The exhibition presents a selection of works by contemporary Romanian painters associated with the so-called Cluj School, which resonates strongly on the international scene. Under the curatorial direction of Jane Neal, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity in Olomouc to see works that have shaped modern European painting.

12 5 2026 / 18:00 Repeat After Me: Open Group / Artist talk + discussion

A night that's not just about listening, but also about thinking and sharing. The Ukrainian art collective Open Group, whose work has also attracted attention at the Venice Biennale, is one of the distinctive voices of contemporary art, and in their work they open up topics that are not entirely comfortable, such as war, refugees, and the relationship between art and politics. How can art respond to the reality around us? And what do we actually take away from it? You can find out this and much more by stopping by and waiting for the following discussion, which will be held in English.

14 5 2026 / 19:00 KINO PREMIERE: Signal from the Eighties

A movie night that takes you back to a time when things were starting to break. Enjoy the atmosphere of the premiere of the short documentary Signal from the Eighties produced by Telegraph Gallery and directed by Michael Bukovansky. What returns to the Czechoslovak art scene of the 1980s, through personal accounts and contemporary context, shows how strong the need for free creation was and how the artistic expression of an entire generation was gradually transformed. It is not just about nostalgia, but rather about understanding where the present is coming from. A discussion with the artists and guests will follow the screening, so it's definitely worth staying for.

15 May 2026 / 17:00 Olomouc Museum Night

As part of Olomouc Museum Night we are opening the doors of the Transylvanian Painting Today exhibition to the public free of charge until 23:00. But the evening doesn't end there, the programme continues on the Telegraph rooftop, where the first Rooftop Fun of the year will kick off the season. DJ Kaput will provide the traditional musical accompaniment. Don't miss this unique day to enjoy a good dose of outdoor fun and music after soaking up the artistic atmosphere.

20 5 2026 / 18:00 The Founding of Spot Gallery: Nikola Korčáková

The next meeting of the Telegraph Gallery lecture series will give us a glimpse behind the scenes of building a private gallery. Gallery owner Nikola Korčáková will share her practical experience and give an insight into how the contemporary art scene works from the perspective of a professional who is actively involved in its formation. The lecture is intended for collectors, students and the general public interested in art.

We look forward to seeing you!
