Telegraph Gallery is not just the space of our main exhibition hall. It is also a platform that creates a program for several other floors of the entire building. And this time, we decided to present a pop-up exhibition of works from the Robert Runták Collection as part of Design Days Olomouc.
The exhibition The Things We Leave Behind is based on the atmosphere of the Telegraph Loft , a space conceived as an avant-garde art collector's apartment, where architecture, design and artwork naturally blend. The distinctive, sometimes dark and decadent aesthetic of the interior becomes part of the exhibition concept and creates a framework for the works of six artists: Haruko Maeda, Otis Laubert, Robert Gabris, Wendy Mayer, Yuli Yamagata and Alexander Tinei.
Their work is united by an interest in the inner aspects of human experience. Physicality and intimacy are prominent in the works of Alexander Tinei and Robert Gabris, where they intertwine with questions of identity and psychological tension, which also permeate the work of Wendy Mayer and Haruko Maeda. The playfulness that is manifested in the works of Otis Laubert in both visual processing and work with material finds its counterpart in the work of Yuli Yamagata. Through exaggeration and grotesque forms, she opens up serious questions of life and death.
The Things We Leave Behind opens up a hidden, dark space in which the viewer, surrounded by works of art, encounters questions of transience and human existence.
Program subject to change.
