Underground of the former Czechoslovakia, shooting for Japanese fashion houses and escape to West Berlin. After the opening ceremony, where you can also enjoy a welcome drink, we will screen Libuše Jarcovjáková's documentary portrait "I am not yet who I want to be". The domestic film, directed by Klara Tasovská, won acclaim at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and explores the life of the legendary Czech photographer through her personal diaries.
Libuše Jarcovjáková (*1952), is a Czech photographer and educator whose work has become an important testimony to social changes in the Czech Republic. After studying at FAMU and emigrating to Berlin, she returned to her homeland and began to intensively document life around her. Her photographs, often intimate and personal, capture not only portraits but also the social and cultural context of her time. From images of Prague's T-Club to documentaries of the Vietnamese community to self-portraits, her work is a colorful mosaic of life experiences. Jarcovjáková has become one of the most important Czech photographers and her work is regularly exhibited abroad (New York, Berlin, Arles). Now, as the head of the photography studio at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, she is passing on her experience to the younger generation.
Klára Tasovská (*1980), director and screenwriter, studied Monumental Art and New Media at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she made her debut with her film Reconstruction (2007). She went on to study documentary filmmaking at FAMU, while with Lukáš Kokš she made the feature film Pevnost, awarded as the best Czech documentary at the Jihlava IDFF. She also participated in the short story film Gottland, presenting the peculiar fates of personalities of the first half of the 20th century - the love affair of actress Lída Baarová with Joseph Goebbels, the story of the flying writer in the service of the STB Eduard Kirchberger and the Bata idea of belt production. The latest film by the renowned Czech documentary filmmaker is "I am not yet who I want to be", during the making of which Klára went through nearly seventy thousand photos of Libuše Jarcovjáková.
