Director Bong Joon-ho's black comedy follows a poor but cunning family of four who decide to infiltrate the wealthy household of businessman Park. What can happen when two such different worlds collide? This original work masterfully works with elements of thriller, drama and satire to deliver a witty and unpredictable viewing experience. Winner of the Palme d'Or, Parasite was hailed by many as the funniest winner of the Cannes Film Festival since Pulp Fiction. And then there were the two Oscars for Best Picture and Best Foreign Film, and no other film in the world has that...!
The Kims are a poor family living in a shabby, cramped, basement apartment in a bustling, poor neighborhood in Seoul. Ki-woo has a dream of getting out of poverty by going to university one day. Despite not having a university education, Ki-woo is chosen by his friend to take over his job as a tutor for Park Da-hye, the girl Min plans to date once he returns to Seoul after he leaves.
The Parks, by contrast, are a wealthy family who have lived for four years in a modern house designed by a famous architect. Mr and Mrs Park are all about status. Mrs Park has a fickle, simple-minded nature. Ki-woo learns from her that she is looking for an art therapist for her teenage son. In Ki-woo's enterprising but dishonest mind, a plan begins to emerge. Gradually, he replaces all the servants in the house with his family members. The Kims become the new residents of the Park mansion. Their biggest problem is with Moon-gwang, the housekeeper, who seems to have grown attached to the house. How far are the Kims willing to go to become the new masters of the house and beyond?
