The insidious Doctor Calligari conducts horrifying experiments on humans. With his obedient servant Somnambula, he commits mysterious atrocities involving sudden deaths and seemingly unearthly phenomena. Robert Wiene's classic 1920 German Expressionist film, had a huge influence on other films around the world... audiences of the time perceived it as universally terrifying. The silent film will be accompanied by live music performed by multi-instrumentalist and Ziegler band member Mark Holan.

Robert Weine (b. 1873), a silent film director and actor of Jewish descent, became particularly famous for his horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a cornerstone of German Expressionist cinema. His other films include the horror film Genuine (1920) and the adaptation of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov (1923). With the decline of Expressionism and the emergence of sound in film in the late 1920s, his fame faded. During the spread of Nazism in Europe, he moved to the United Kingdom and then to France, where he also worked with Jean Cocteau and where he died before the start of World War II.
Multi-instrumentalist Marek Holan will be coming from Prague to provide musical accompaniment.
