František Fajtl and Filip Jánský. Two brave Czechoslovak airmen of the Second World War. Both served on the Western and also on the Eastern front. Both were ready to make sacrifices without any big words. And both were also extremely sensitive observers of the world around them. In the film, we are taken in turn through the wartime landscape in Germany, Poland, France, Great Britain, the Orient, the Soviet Union and Slovakia. We are shown what it was like to escape from an occupied homeland. How they had to conquer the fear of death and mourn their fallen comrades, but also celebrate another borrowed time on earth. How they gradually got used to life in foreign countries, learned to understand the local customs and reflected on them with humour. As they steadfastly refused to give in to evil, they also prayed for the war to end. They were humble, unpretentious, self-sacrificing, and yet very funny - in short, true Good Old Czechs. Flying with them through the turbulent world of war is therefore a sheer joy.
