Science in Film is a series of film screenings accompanied by an educational lecture. In cooperation with the UP Crowd, we are popularizing various scientific disciplines through film.
The worst thing that can happen to you 250,000 miles from home is you. Astronaut Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is the only employee staying at the lunar base of Lunar Industries, with whom he has a three-year contract. His job is to oversee the otherwise fully automated extraction of Helium-3, a rare gas used as fuel on Earth. Communication between the base and Earth is almost impossible due to periodic malfunctions, so Sam's only companion and assistant is the intelligent computer Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey). After nearly three years in isolation, Sam wants nothing more than to be back on Earth with his wife and young daughter, who was born just before he left. Fortunately, he is only two weeks away from returning to Earth. But Sam's health is beginning to deteriorate. The headaches and hallucinations he suffers from cause a near-fatal accident during a routine inspection of one of the mining machines, in which Sam is injured. He subsequently discovers, surprisingly, that he is not alone on the moon and, what's more, that his world may be far from what it seemed...

The Conquest of the Solar System
Speaker: Mgr. Mgr. Jan Tomaštík, PhD.
Humanity orbited our planet more than half a century ago and may seem to have lost interest and momentum in further conquest of space. But perhaps this is just a huff and a puff before the next leap, which will mean more active exploration of the planets of the solar system, but also commercial mining, and eventually, perhaps, permanent and sustainable colonization. The Scientist will dream with you about what the first space cities beyond planet Earth will look like. program reserved.
