Are you interested in art? Do you want to learn something about contemporary art? The lecture series with the artists and curators themselves is the perfect opportunity to take a peek under the hood of the art world, talk directly with the artists about their own work and spend an evening in a pleasant environment. There is no limit to the creativity of asking questions, because it is thanks to the audience's attention that works of art live the life they deserve.
In a lecture series focusing on the presentation of contemporary artists and curators, one of the exhibiting artists from the now-closed exhibition Signal IV: The Eighties, Jiří David, will be introduced.
Jiří David (*1956) is a Czech painter, intermedia artist, and educator. From 1982 to 1987, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of figural and monumental painting under Arnošt Paderlík. During his studies, in 1983, he participated in the founding of the unofficial exhibition series Konfrontace (Confrontation), which contributed significantly to the emergence of the independent art scene of the 1980s. In 1987, he co-founded the Tvrdohlaví group, which played a key role in the emergence of postmodern art in the Czech environment. Jiří David's work is known for its bold, often provocative, and performative approach. In his works, he deals with themes of identity, paradox, the position of the artist in society, and reflections on political events, which often provoke discussion and controversy. He is represented in many domestic and foreign collections, such as the Prague City Gallery, the National Gallery in Prague, the Olomouc Museum of Art, the Ludwig Museum, MUMOK, The Art Institute of Chicago, and others.
