During September and October, Belén Uriel will create in residence at the Telegraph and will present her work at the launch of Open Studio in the studio.
Belén Uriel (*1974) brings to the art world an entirely new perspective on ordinary objects and their influence on our social habits. The artist, originally from Madrid, currently lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2015 she received an art grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon and in 2018 she was awarded the prestigious 6th Audemars Piguet Prize, awarded at ARCO Madrid. In her work, she works mainly with glass and metal, creating distorted replicas of everyday objects that bear traces of human use. Belén rearranges these elements so that they themselves evoke the form of anatomical parts. The partially reconstructed objects seem to return to the bodies that indirectly inspired them. Her artwork is a profound reflection on the relationship between humans and their environment and the ability to perceive new artistic potential in everyday objects.
Programme subject to change.
