Snow-covered glacial plains, endless boreal forests, vast estates of bears, moose and wolves, and towering mountains towering above it all - these are common images of the High North. However, this romantic ideal has been dissolved countless times in another human desire - to conquer and plunder the riches of these lands. This conflict must be balanced today and in the future if this beautiful part of the world is to continue to beckon wilderness escapes.
