Nine-year-old Elisabeth returns to her family living in a research station in the middle of the Amazon rainforest for the summer holidays, as her father works there as a cartographer and jungle expert. Soon after her arrival, her father falls off a ladder and needs treatment, so her mother has to take him to the hospital. Elisabeth offers to take care of her little and very restless brother Leo in the meantime. But she doesn't enjoy it much and instead of babysitting, she prefers to have her nose buried in a book. When she finally looks around a while later, she discovers that Leo has wandered into the jungle. She must find him and bring him home before her parents return. Thus begins her adventurous journey through a mysterious and unknown jungle. During it, she manages to overcome her fear, find her little brother and meet a new friend. Together, the children manage to outsmart a trio of dangerous poachers who are hunting rare species of animals in the rainforest. They reach the mystical Devil's Mountain, where they are helped in their fight against poachers by members of a mysterious tribe, as well as their new animal partner, Fluffy, who belongs to a previously undiscovered species of jungle dweller.
