The Old Oak is the story of a village in the north-east of England where a mine has closed and the people feel cut off from the rest of the world. Many young people have left and the once prosperous and proud community struggles to hold on to old values. But there is growing anger, resentment and lack of hope. Houses here are cheap and available. That makes the village an ideal place for the Syrian refugees Britain has taken in in recent years. How will the Syrians be received? And what will be the future of The Old Oak - the last remaining pub in the village
