It starts one night as a minor accident that brings together former political prisoner Vahid and a man he recognises as his tormentor from prison. Though Vahid has never seen his face, his stride and the specific sound of his artificial leg, he recognizes with certainty... But is that certainty complete? Bulletproof? Without much planning, Vahid embarks on a tragicomic plot to bring together former fellow prisoners marked by pervasive political corruption. Together, they face a question that haunts many nations: can we take revenge on a cruel system by taking out revenge on an individual who loyally serves it?
Master of subversive Iranian cinema Džafar Panahí returns with a film inspired by his own experiences in prison. That is why, in addition to his typical humour, the Cannes Palme d'Or winner delivers an unusually frank and indignant slap at an authoritarian regime that disdains the right to free expression and simple human dignity.
