The 12th edition of the Future Gate festival will take place in Prague, Brno, Hradec Králové, Plzeň, Olomouc, Hodonín and Šumperk. You can look forward to a competition of new films, a competition of student films, legends of the genre, short films and a documentary section. It's going to be big, it's going to be unforgettable.
This year's theme will be The Human Body. Expect to see themes of cybernetic enhancement, genetic modification and the involvement of artificial intelligence. What does it mean to be human? If we can enhance our physical abilities or even replace body parts with technology, aren't we losing something essential of our humanity? Is our body merely a tool that we can change at will, or does it have an inherent value and identity that we should respect? Future Gate 2025 will once again look to the movies for inspiration.
An alien spaceship has landed near the suburbs of Los Angeles. The strange characters scattered to collect samples in the surrounding area, and only one of them made it to the edge of the forest. Enchanted by the lights of the big city, she forgot her mission. That's why she didn't make it aboard in time and was stranded on our planet. The alien found shelter in the shed of the nearest house, and it was here that ten-year-old Elliot discovered him and introduced him to his siblings. They have become friends, but the little one, whom the children have taken to calling E.T., is terribly homesick and wants to make a connection with his "own". It doesn't work and E.T. breaks up. By that time, his hideout has been tracked down and the sick alien finds himself in the hands of scientists. Hour by hour, he wastes away until the instruments pronounce him dead. Only Elliot is given to understand that this is not the case and that he has managed to make contact with home. The children manage to rescue their friend from a distant planet.
