David Těšínský photographs people's stories, special lifestyles, controversial and extraordinary fates and topics. He sees photography as a tool that can break stereotypes and open new perspectives and tell the world stories that should be seen. Through photography he confronts. "I see my photography as a strike weapon that kills stereotypes and xenophobia, a sweet cake that delights and a medicine that opens eyes. I want to show much more than a photo. A photo that is just a photo is useless. "David Těšínský covers various topics - youth in Iran, women fighters in the war zone in Ukraine, portraits of serial killers in Ukraine, gang problems and volunteer rescue workers in Guatemala, the lives of Japanese businessmen, exorcism in Ethiopia, the daily street life of rappers in Detroit, New York and Baltimore, and ghetto life in Jamaica, in Ghana and Nigeria, alcoholism in Greenland, victims of deliberate fires in the Amazon in Brazil, hard-working children in Ghana, the street life of roots reggae legends in Jamaica, a long-term project on drug addicts in Prague and the same topic in Victoria, Canada, the illegal LGBTQ movement in Belarus, life in the slums of India and Nepal, the first ever transvestite in Cuba, and other subcultures and stories.

David and what will the lecture be about?
"Last time I didn't talk at all about alcoholism in Greenland or the first transvestite cop in Pakistan. I'd certainly mention the trip to Israel and Palestine, or now the last time I went and photographed young people in Kaliningrad, Russia. I've had lots of experiences..."

His photographs have appeared in The Guardian, VICE, Le Monde, VANITY FAIR, The Huff Post, Stern, Spiegel, La Repubblica, The Sun, The Times. He has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Seoul, Washington D.C., Tel Aviv, Dakar, London, Budapest, Berlin, Munich, Brussels, etc., and has participated in group exhibitions throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, and in Israel at about 80 other events. He has participated ten times in the Czech Press Photo competition and has been awarded in the Sony World Photography Awards, PDN storytellers, Award of excellence by PICTURES OF THE YEAR INTERNATIONAL or World Press Photo.

DAVID TĚŠÍNSKÝ

David doesn't take pictures of places. He photographs people's stories. He enters environments that confront, unsettle and break down stereotypes. After two years and new journeys, he returns to the Telegraph to give us insights into, for example, alcoholism in Greenland, subcultures in Russia, Israel and Palestine, ghettos, war, illegal LGBTQ communities. For him, photography is not a decoration, but a weapon - a way of asking questions and showing the world without pretensions. His lecture is raw, personal and visually powerful. His book, ANOTHER BEAUTY, will also be available for sale at the event.

Individual Photography Workshop with David Teshinsky - ARE YOU INTERESTED?
Do you want to advance the way you shoot or finally learn to understand your DSLR or mirrorless camera? At an individual workshop, we will focus on exactly what you are interested in - whether it is the basics of working with the camera, post-production, or a creative approach to photography.
The workshop lasts by appointment - it can be an afternoon or a whole day - and takes place right in Olomouc. We can go out on the streets to shoot, or concentrate in a quieter environment over a coffee or beer.
The goal is that you leave the workshop feeling like you've really moved on and learned something new.
It can include shooting unconventional portraits - original, playful or experimental, depending on mood, location and light. Of course, we can also do classic portraits, but the emphasis is on personality and authenticity.
