In the lecture series Collecting Contemporary Art, you will learn from successful and emerging collectors or curators and experts in investing in contemporary art what impulses led them to become interested in the contemporary art market. They will reveal how they build or help build their collections and what their criteria are when selecting specific works. The lecture series is aimed at the layman with an interest in art, as well as collectors who are puzzling over how to evaluate their collection or create a remarkable and unique collection.
The lecture will be given by curator Pavel Kubesa.
Pavel Kubesa has been working as art director at Prague's NoD Gallery since 2017. He graduated from Masaryk University in Brno, where he studied aesthetics and film studies. In the art world, he has distinguished himself not only as a curator of contemporary art, but also as a book designer and editor, composer and manager. In his curatorial practice, he has focused on environmental themes, the possibilities of reflecting on the conditions of late capitalism through the tools of contemporary art, and is interested in the encounter between contemporary visual language and a broader theoretical apparatus, ranging from the discourses of semiotics, Anglo-Saxon analytical philosophy to the natural sciences and the legacy of classical philosophy. His ability to connect disparate fields of art creates a unique perspective on the art scene, making him a leader in the field whose influence extends beyond the confines of conventional gallery spaces.
