Promis, I'll Be Fine tells the story of fifteen-year-old Enrique, who grows up with his grandmother in a forgotten Slovak village, while his mother Martina works in a distant city and rarely finds time to visit her son. The summer passes slowly and the lanky Enrique shortens his wait for his mother by riding babettes and doing small mischief with his friends. At the same time, he dutifully completes his mother's tasks - at first without question, but soon he begins to suspect that they are not as innocent as they seemed. Gossip about Martina spreads in the village and Enrique gradually begins to doubt the image he has formed of his mother.
