From Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning director Raoul Peck (I'm Not Your Nigger) comes Orwell: 2+2=5, a comprehensive feature-length documentary about visionary author George Orwell, made in exclusive association with the Orwell Estate. "Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past...," wrote Orwell in his novel "1984". Today, the "Newspeak" of authoritarian power structures is alive and well, and it is found in unexpected places, from the rise of AI chatbots to the Russian propaganda machine, from the marketing networks of the commercial branches of the metaverse to the political banning of books in the southern United States. Peck's film uses the life, work, and legacy of George Orwell as a non-conformist iconoclastic writer to disrupt the signals of algorithms out of control and threatening to close our minds in unprecedented proportions in the name of personal freedom.
