The 1940s. The wartime Slovak state builds its identity on hatred of minorities. After the expulsion of the Czechs, the first Jewish transports leave. The growing nationalism also affects a Hungarian widow, Marika, who loses her job in an arized tailor's shop in the centre of Bratislava. Guardsmen arrive in her village with a clear mission: "To sow Slovak blood in this Hungarian-populated corner of the Slovak borderlands!" Because of her background and the fact that she is hiding a Jewish boy, Marika tries to keep a low profile. Yet she finds herself the focus of two men's attention. A captain of the Slovak Hlinka Guard and a German Nazi officer.
