Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová), an elegant doctor, works in a backwater district hospital in the mid-1980s. Trapped by an exhausted marriage and a stagnant career, she devotes most of her time to her patients. She gives birth to children and terminates unwanted pregnancies. She also performs sterilizations on Romani women without fully understanding the consequences. A new friendship with a young and straightforward orderly, Agáta, makes Ingrid see things in a different light. Will she begin to question the rules she has so far followed indifferently? Ivan Ostrochovský's impressive drama opens an unresolved chapter in Czechoslovak history, when the state decided on the possibility of having children.
