One cannot fully appreciate 20th century art without understanding the importance and genius of Paul Cézanne. The film provides exclusive access to the first ever exhibition devoted to Cézanne's portraits, held at London's National Portrait Gallery and attracting worldwide interest. Also included are interviews with experts and curators from MoMA in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The film also presents the painter's own correspondence and takes viewers to the places where Cézanne lived and worked. It sheds light on an artist who is surely one of the most important of the Impressionists.
