Amira Alhariri arrived in Prague with her husband and children, bringing with her little more than memories of the life they had to leave behind because of the war in Syria. Over the course of ten years, we have watched her family face a challenge they could not prepare for: children growing up between two worlds. In everyday situations that carry unexpected tensions, we see how her daughter chooses between wearing a hijab and trying to fit in with her peers, how her youngest son begins to speak better Czech than Arabic, and how the middle children find a balance between their parents' expectations and their own emerging identities. While her husband builds a small kebab business and spends long hours working to provide for the family financially, Amira becomes her cultural support. She teaches her children traditional recipes, tells stories from home and keeps in touch with relatives scattered around the world. Yet, with each passing day, she watches her children adjust to their new lives in a way that inspires pride - but also quiet concern. As each of her children find their own path to adulthood in their new surroundings, Amira increasingly wonders if home may become the place where her children's futures will unfold.
