Anu and Prabha are nurses who share a small apartment in vibrant Mumbai and a desire to live life on their own terms. The amorous Anu is desperate to escape an arranged marriage, while the elderly Prabha has long since lost touch with her husband living in Germany. When Prabha receives an unexpected package from abroad, questions emerge for which she must seek answers. A break from the hustle and bustle of the big city in the tranquility of a seaside village brings the friends an opportunity to fulfil their own dreams. But can they really change their destiny? A captivating story of inner strength, friendship and the search for freedom in the grip of tradition, this film won the Grand Prix at Cannes.
