Sometime in the 1990s, somewhere in a Turkish seaside resort, divorced young father Calum (Paul Mescal) is vacationing with his almost-teenage daughter Sophia (Francesca Corio). The dad's easy-going demeanour, who never fails to have fun and is amused by the fact that those around him think of him as the girl's older brother, is obscured by a disturbing veil of melancholy. Charlotte Wells' debut has the feel of a childhood memory and doesn't need showy gestures to convey life's indescribably intense feelings. Its delicately impressive narrative and stunning empathy have made it an audience hit at dozens of festivals, including Cannes, Toronto and Karlovy Vary.
