The teenage years can be very complicated, and Riley, who is uprooted from her old life in the American Midwest after her father has to move to San Francisco for a new job, is no exception. Like all of us, Riley is ruled by her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. Emotions live in the Control Center, the headquarters inside Riley's mind, where they help her deal with the rigors of everyday life. As Riley and her emotions work together to cope with the challenges of new beginnings in San Francisco, chaos erupts in the Control Center. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep everyone positive, disagreements arise between the different emotions on how best to deal with their new city, home, and school.
