Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) always falls for the biggest asshole around. The latter has just gotten her involved in a drug deal run by the all-powerful Mr. Jang (Choi Min Sik from the cult Oldboy). Before he can get a good look around, he has a package sewn into his stomach containing an extremely powerful synthetic drug that he has to smuggle into Europe if he wants to survive. An unfortunate coincidence, or rather the brutality of the guards who are supposed to be watching her before she leaves, causes the package to rip open and its contents begin to be absorbed into Lucy's body. She soon discovers that this is truly exceptional "stuff" when she dispatches all the guards in a flash and escapes to freedom. She is suddenly much stronger in every way, much more perceptive, quicker thinking, even developing superhuman skills. It's the unknown substance that has greatly increased the percentage of her brain capacity. Moreover, the number is still rising, and Lucy realizes that the gift could become a deadly threat. So she seeks out Professor Norman (Morgan Freeman), the foremost expert on the human brain, to try and help her. But he has Jang and his hit men on his tail, and they don't want to lose their courier at any cost.
