Commented tour and catalogue launch of the exhibition Signal IV: The Eighties with curators Pavla Kosař and Miroslav Jiřel.
Signal IV is the fourth exhibition in a row that reveals another part of Robert Runták's collection, this time focusing on a selection of works from the 1980s.
The exhibition presents the generation of artists of the 1980s in confrontation with their mentors who worked outside of school institutions and influenced this emerging generation through their work. The most interesting of the contemporary art scene did not take place officially, but in seclusion, away from the scrutiny of the review panels that were supposed to guarantee adherence to ideological and artistic value, or to judge and censor artworks before they were exhibited.
The Telegraph will show a representative selection of the unofficial 1980s mainstream, with works collected at least two decades apart from their creation. This time interval has meant a considerable advantage for the collector, and incredibly, the collection offers not just his subjective view, but a comprehensive account of the artistic approaches of the 1980s, which this exhibition will attempt to approach.
