¿Colores en Telégrapho?

25 7 2022

Spain has arrived at the Telegraph. Not just the heat, but the Spanish culture brought to us by the organisers of the Colores! The international festival of flamenco and Ibero-American culture has been operating in the Czech Republic for over a decade and over the course of its past editions has brought to us legions of established musicians, dancers, artists and people from the traditional gastro scene. This year, for the first time, part of the festival will take place in our building, in the atrium, which will be enlivened by the rhythms of flamenco three times during the weekend.

29 7 2022 Summer Cinema: CHICO A RITA

On Friday, the festival will kick off with an exclusive screening of the animated musical CHICO A RITA. The melodramatic story of jazz musician Chico and singer Rita comes to life in this animated adaptation. The love story begins in the late 1940s in Cuba and gradually moves to the United States and Europe. In the tradition of the best melodramas, it unfolds an adventure about the eternal search for mutual love in a world of intrigue and musical rhythms. The Cuban Revolution of 1959 also intervenes in their lives. Music plays an unforgettable role in the film, whether it is jazz or popular Latin American songs that accompany the characters. The filmmakers deliberately chose jazz because it was an important source of inspiration in the development of Cuban music and culture in general. A unique screening of an acclaimed film in the Czech Republic!

30 7 2022 URBAN VIBES: Morenita de Triana

Flamenco is made primarily by the guitar and the musician who plays it. You'll be able to hear two masters of the instrument both days of the weekend. Saturday's Urban Vibes from 16:30 will belong to a musician under the pseudonym Morenita de Triana, whose own name is Stanko Kohútek, born in Bratislava. He has been playing flamenco guitar for more than twenty years. He has regularly performed as a solo guitarist in Vienna, Paris and Seville. He has also performed at the Tablau El Arenal, one of the most prestigious flamenco theatres in Seville. In July 2005, he and Los Remedios performed as guests at a concert of the world-famous Gipsy Kings in Bratislava and he performed in the musical Carmen alongside Lucie Bílá.

31 7 2022 Petr Vit

The Colores festival will close on Sunday evening with guitarist Petr Vít, whose lilting guitar is most often heard between the Iberian Peninsula and South America. Brno native Petr Vít is not only an active musician but also a professor at the Brno Conservatory and the artistic director of the Ibérica and Colores festivals. In 2014, for his long-standing promotion of Spanish culture, he received the Cross of Honour of the Order of Civil Merit from the King of Spain, Don Juan Carlos I. After his success in classical guitar, he began to discover a completely different musical world and, enchanted by flamenco, he studied this style right in the heart of the action, in Andalusia, Spain, where he received a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Petr Vít spent many years in Granada, Andalusia, which became his de facto second home. Six strings, evoking the sound of the sea surf, the echoes of the carnival or the silence of the arid Andalusian plains and a sweet ending to the first half of summer. Both concerts are free to attend, but you can reserve your ticket in advance!

From Thursday until Sunday, the cinema space will also feature an exhibition of photographs taken by Peter Vit during his travels in Colombia, while you can also enjoy great food at the Telegraph Cafe. Throughout the week, you can dine on traditional Andalusian cold soup, Gazpacho, or authentic Brazilian maminha steak! Then expect a special drink at the weekend and churros as a sweet spot! So hasta pronto!
